DIGITAL: Our favorites of 2021

In 2021, Adweknow reported on activity, achievements, and initiatives in the field of digital content creation: Web TV, apps, video platforms, podcasts, etc.

Many independent players, often with limited resources, have shown creativity and energy in these areas that inspire admiration and respect.

Our five favorites are a subjective and partial selection of what made the news in 2021. It has the merit of once again putting the spotlight on innovative players, ambitious projects, and original initiatives, all of which aim to energize the African ecosystem and provide African populations with new services in line with their interests and needs.

AFRICATIK

is a suite of educational applications adapted to the African cultural context and created by Kamahunda Mulamba.

In June 2021, AFRICATIK launched a subscription offer to allow a wide audience to enjoy the full range of services via a single product: the Africatik App

covers five areas with around 20 apps with content adapted to each country, including language learning.  Children can learn French, English, and African languages from West Africa, Central Africa, East Africa, and Southern Africa.

AFROSPIK

is a podcast platform created by journalist Théophile Kouamouo.

Accessible via a website but also via a Google Play and iOS app, AFROSPIK offers free access to radio content such as KALAK FM, Yaoundé's main radio station, but also offers independent podcasts such as those by Jessica Brou, Conversation privée, and adaptations such as those by Gassim Chérif, a young Chadian journalist who produces Facebook Live videos.

IRAWO

was founded in 2015 by Mylène Flicka

, named in 2020 as one of the most influential figures in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). IRAWO provides tools, resources, and support to help young Africans structure their ideas, present their businesses, and better monetize their skills. Through Irawo Taka, its support program, IRAWO helps talented individuals transform their expertise into successful businesses. By the end of December 2021, 1,000 talented individuals will have been trained.

OSE TV:

is a web TV channel run by Sandrine Ochou

dedicated to entrepreneurship and leadership, which enables start-ups and SMEs to communicate easily and cost-effectively and thus gain visibility.

In August 2021, OSE TV launched an awareness campaign on entrepreneurship: "WE DARE TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN," which aims to inform, raise awareness, and motivate people about the strong potential they represent for the socio-economic development of their region.

SPORTS NEWS AFRICA

is a pan-African online media outlet created by Séné Ossebi Douniam

with the ambition of covering African sports news in all its dimensions. The website, which was redesigned in March 2021, focuses on the major sports of football and basketball, of course, but also on Olympic sports such as athletics, swimming, and women's sports. SPORT NEWS AFRICA is preparing an ambitious plan for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations and has announced the launch of a mini-site entirely dedicated to the competition.
