Facebook rolls out its Fact Checking program in the DRC

After Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and more recently Senegal, Facebook has announced the rollout of its Fact Checking program in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This initiative is the result of a partnership between AFP, France 24 Observers, and Congolese journalists who work daily to combat the spread of fake news and misinformation, particularly on online social networks, which are playing an increasingly important role in the field of information.

As the world leader in online networks, Facebook wants to take responsibility for content with regard to the hundreds of millions of users on the continent. According to Aïda Ndiaye, Facebook's Public Policy Manager for French-speaking Africa, "Fake news has no place on Facebook. We are a platform for communication and interaction. It is a great responsibility for us to ensure the integrity of the information circulating on our platform. Fake news is a complex problem that requires a multi-stakeholder approach. To address this, we are developing partnerships with third-party content verification organizations."
