CanalOlympia: a look back at 2018

After opening its 12th movie theater in Port-Gentil, Gabon, last December, CanalOlympia illustrates its growth in French-speaking Africa with a few key figures.

Presence in eight countries

The CanalOlympia network is now present in eight French-speaking African countries, including Gabon, Cameroon, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Togo, Congo Brazzaville, and Benin.

Led by Christine Pigeyre since September 2018, the CanalOlympia network has announced a number of new theater openings in 2018. Today, the Vivendi group's network boasts 11 operational theaters in the region, as well as three projects under construction and nine theater opening projects currently under negotiation. It should be noted that the strategy announced in 2017 was to open around 20 theaters by the end of 2019.

Movie lovers return to the cinema

In addition to the cultural and sporting events it organizes, the CanalOlymia network recorded attendance of nearly 560,000 movie lovers in 2018, who came to see a total of 74 films. The cinema occupancy rate announced by Vivendi Africa stands at 24% with more than 8,200 screenings scheduled (approximately 15% in France for nearly 8 million screenings scheduled in 2017).
