Senegal officially establishes a National Digital Council

Senegal has established a new independent advisory body to support the growth of digital technology, the National Digital Council.

On June 18, the Senegalese government set up the National Digital Council, which is responsible for defining major policy directions in the digital field.

A total of 20 independent members representing all digital stakeholders will serve on the council until 2022. Entrepreneur Karim Sy, founder of Jokkolabs and former director of the Digital Africa initiative, has joined the council. Together, the members will embody the Senegalese government's ambitions for the digital policy implemented in the country,

as well as the national ambition to develop "digital technology for all and for all uses in Senegal by 2025, with a dynamic and innovative private sector in a high-performance ecosystem."

The Council will be chaired by Senegalese Prime Minister Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne.
