Netflix wants to support the creation of African content

After officially launching its activities in Nigeria and West Africa this year, thanks to a partnership with production company Upper Room, Netflix is joining forces with Realness Institute, an incubator active in English-speaking countries, to train African screenwriters.

Together, the two entities will set up a training workshop for screenwriters on the continent on writing episodic content. For the time being, the workshop is open to candidates from South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya who already have experience in the field. They have until November 30 to submit their applications.

At the end of the call for applications, six candidates will be selected to take part in the training and work on projects supervised by Netflix. The aim is to support the creation of African content

. "

We believe that Africa is full of untold stories. As we expand our slate of original programming on the continent, partnerships with organizations such as Realness will help us achieve our goal of investing in the work of writers who will bring diverse genres of authentic and local stories…" said Dorothy Ghettuba, Head of Original Programming for Africa at Netflix.
