On June 9, Dakar-based filmmaker Fatou Kandé Senghor officially launched the new series Walabok.
Designed as a 30-episode series, it was produced by Waru Studio in Dakar, an artistic research platform created by the filmmaker with the aim of actively participating in the development and revitalization of media and communication.
Walabok is a new series dedicated to young people, particularly Senegalese youth influenced by hip hop culture. Dakar is one of the pioneering locations for African hip hop. Born in the 1980s, the movement subsequently developed and spread across the country in step with the periods of crisis and protest that marked the nation.
The preview of the "Walabok" series took place on June 9, 2021, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Communication and the Fund for the Promotion of the Film and Audiovisual Industry (FOPICA).
According to a statement from the Senegalese Film Commission, the 30 episodes of "Walabok" will be broadcast on the Wido platform starting June 21, 2021.
Launched by the Orange Sonatel group, Wido is a video app that allows users to watch exclusive local content on their smartphones.
