UAR and Kantar launch audience measurement for CAN 2019

The African Broadcasting Union, exclusive holder of the broadcasting rights for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations for sub-Saharan Africa, has entrusted Kantar TNS with measuring the competition's audience.

Given the lack of statistical data on audience measurement for sporting competitions and other major international events on the African continent, the AUB has decided to set up an audience measurement unit for African television channels that have acquired the broadcasting rights for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to Grégoire Ndjaka, Director General of the UAR, the availability of data on sporting events in Africa could be an important lever for development.

The audience measurement study, conducted from June 21 to July 25, 2019, will target a population aged 15 and over who regularly followed the CAN matches, spread across more than ten countries.

The strategy deployed by Kantar TNS will ensure coverage throughout the competition in order to determine the audience shares of each television channel and their place in consumption, with a view to highlighting key statistical data such as the proportion of the population that watched each match and which media and television channels were the most popular.
