Starting November 1, TV5MONDE will broadcast the new documentary series African Empires, an initiative by producer Sébastien Onomo that will take viewers on a captivating journey through African history.
Created by Laurent Mizrahi and Sébastien Onomo, this new original series is a true journey into the greatest kingdoms and empires of Africa before the era of colonization, blending historical accounts and fiction in four episodes.
“It was an idea I had after working on a film, Bois d’Ébène by Moussa Touré. I felt that there was still a lot to be said about the history of the African continent. I then suggested to Laurent Mizrahi that we create a series on the great African empires before colonization and their impact on history. It wasn't easy to produce this series, but we felt it was essential to do so in order to offer those who are curious the opportunity to discover the history of this continent, which cannot be summed up by colonization and decolonization. Far from it," Sébastien Onomo confided in an interview with Adweknow.
The talented Françoise Ellong also directed the episode "Yennenga, la Princesse Guerrière" (Yennenga, the Warrior Princess) of the documentary series, with my dear Christa Eka Assam in the lead role, alongside Hilaire Yahaud, Seynabou Ndiaye, Lamine Cissé, Zineb Zerbo, Jovane Lépé, and Loïc Obame.
To discover this new series, tune in to TV5MONDE starting November 1 and soon exclusively on CANAL+ Afrique for its African premiere.
