TV5 Monde at the heart of June's news

For once, the discreet TV5 MONDE is making headlines this month:

Resignation of the president

At the end of May, following the announcement of the launch of the procedure to appoint the next President of TV5Monde, Yves Bigot decided to bring forward his departure and submitted his resignation. His term of office will end on June 30.

Seven African countries acquire stake in TV5 Monde

At the end of April, the announcement that seven African countries were acquiring a stake in TV5 Monde sparked reactions within the editorial team and in the press.

In the interview he gave us a few days ago, Yves Bigot revisits this subject, explaining the importance that he and his constituents attach to this project, which is crucial for the future of TV5Monde.

Signing of the new Editorial Charter

To address the editorial team's concerns following the plan to expand the capital to seven African countries, on June 6, management and the SDJ drafted and signed a strengthened charter aimed at establishing rules governing editorial independence and professional ethics within TV5MONDE's news department.

Dismissal procedure

The latest major development: Françoise JOLY, Director of News at TV5Monde, was summoned on June 11 to a meeting prior to her dismissal.

She became head of TV5 Monde's editorial team in 2019, having previously co-directed Envoyé Spécial on France 2 with Guilaine Chenu from 2001 to 2016.

Appointment of the new President

At the same time, the process of appointing the next President of TV5 Monde is entering its final stages: candidates had until June 9 to apply.

Apart from the three names mentioned in the letter even before the call for applications was opened, namely Olivier Poivre d'Arvor, Arnaud Gatcha, and Martin Ajari, three other names are now circulating: Elisabeth Tchoungui, who knows the company well having been the first African journalist to present the TV5 Monde news program, Marc Olivier Fogiel, and Alexandre Ruiz.

According to our information, the TV5 Monde Board of Directors meeting scheduled for June 25 should provide an opportunity for the French representative to propose the name of the next President, who should then be confirmed by the other governments.
