Tennis is growing in French-speaking Africa

On the sidelines of the latest edition of Roland Garros, the French Tennis Federation organized the "Rendez-vous de la Francophonie du Tennis" in some thirty countries. Chaired by the Secretary General of La Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo, these events brought together French-speaking tennis federations into an association, the Association des Fédérations Francophones de Tennis (A2FT).

This federation, with its international reach, aims to develop tennis in French-speaking countries, particularly on the African continent. The main areas of development will focus on creating tennis clubs in French-speaking countries, training managers and coaches, identifying talent, and organizing tournaments and competitions in the region.

Daniel Chausse, Vice President of the French Tennis Federation, will serve as President of the association. Aziz Laaraf, Secretary General of the Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation, will serve as Secretary General. Mohamed Traore, President of the Malian Tennis Federation, and Alain Sayegh, Secretary General of the Lebanese Tennis Federation, will serve as Vice Presidents.

In Africa, a continental and international tennis academy, with centers in Senegal and Benin, will be created, along with a network of certified clubs. These structures will not only be places where everyone can play tennis, train, be scouted, and improve their skills, but also places for socializing and accessing education, culture, and healthcare.
