Kantar TNS has published the annual results of its Africascope 2018 study, which covers eight French-speaking sub-Saharan African countries and provides insights into television, radio, and internet consumption.
TELEVISION

It should be noted that this year, for the first time, the proportion of individuals watching television on a flat screen exceeded those watching on a cathode ray tube screen. Today, 55% watch television on a flat screen (vs. 48% in 2017).

The countries that listen to the radio the most are Mali, with an average listening time of 2 hours and 32 minutes per day, and Burkina Faso, which peaks at nearly 3 hours and 37 minutes. Cameroon is the only country to record an average listening time of less than 1 hour.
In 2018, radio was listened to equally via a traditional radio set (59%) and via a mobile phone equipped with an FM receiver (59%). Only 4% listen to the radio via their television set.
INTERNET and SOCIAL MEDIA

In 2018, 51% of people connected to the internet at least occasionally; 32% connected at least once a week and 26% every day or almost every day. This represents an increase of 6 points compared to 2017.
