TV advertising investments measured by the Omedia institute increased by 14% in Cameroon in the first quarter of 2024. This is a small increase compared to the first quarter of 2023, which saw a sharp decline (-45% vs. 2022).
During the two months of broadcasting the 2023 African Cup of Nations (January and February 2024), the two channels measured by the Omedia institute saw a 34% increase: a nice improvement, but nothing exceptional.
It should be noted that CANAL2 International and CRTV faced unprecedented competition during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations: Equinoxe TV, the private channel owned by the La Nouvelle Expression group, announced a few days before the start of the competition that it had also acquired the broadcasting rights for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Unlike in Ivory Coast or Senegal, the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has not been a huge boost for local channels.
