On December 31, 2025, CANAL+ and Warner Bros. Discovery signed a new multi-year, multi-territory agreement that secures and strengthens the presence of Warner channels and content on the group's offerings in Africa, notably via MultiChoice (DStv/GOtv).
The agreement renews the distribution of 12 Warner Bros. Discovery thematic channels in African territories operated by MultiChoice, now controlled by CANAL+.
It is part of a broader partnership that also covers Europe and paves the way for the wider integration of HBO Max into CANAL+ offerings in several markets.
The channels affected in Africa include CNN International, Discovery Channel, Discovery Family, Real Time, TLC, HGTV, Food Network, ID, Travel Channel, TNT Africa, Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, and Cartoon Network Porto.
CNN International and Cartoon Network are exclusive in South Africa and non-exclusive in the rest of Africa, while Cartoon Network Porto is exclusive in Angola and Mozambique.
The agreement prevents the announced discontinuation of these 12 channels on DStv on January 1, 2026, reassuring millions of subscribers in South Africa, Nigeria, and the rest of the continent.
It enables CANAL+ to consolidate its premium offering in news, youth programming, entertainment, and documentaries, in a context of fierce competition between pay TV and streaming platforms in sub-Saharan Africa.
By securing Warner's strong brands (CNN, Discovery, Cartoon Network, TNT Africa, etc.), CANAL+ is strengthening the appeal of its packages in the face of local offerings and global streaming giants, particularly its range of youth, news, entertainment, and documentary channels in strategic markets across the continent.
Combined with the acquisition of MultiChoice and other agreements, this partnership is part of a super-aggregation strategy aimed at making CANAL+ the central entry point for pay TV in Africa.
