CM d'Afrique, the community that brings together all Community Managers on the African continent, has compiled a new overview of the use of the main social networks in Cameroon.
This new study highlights the evolution of the number of social network users in Cameroon between 2017 and 2022.
Here are the main trends:
- In 2017, 2.5 million Cameroonians were active on social networks.
- In 2021, there were 4.3 million active social media users in Cameroon, with a penetration rate of 16%.
- 2022 was a very good year, with 4.5 million active social media users, thanks in particular to the rise of new platforms such as TikTok. That same year, the penetration rate reached 16.5%!
It should be noted that in a previous study published in May 2022, CM d'Afrique highlighted that Facebook remains the preferred social network for Cameroonians and that the top five West African countries with the strongest social media presence are:
- Nigeria: 32.9 million active users
- Ghana: 8.8 million
- Ivory Coast: 6.4 million
- Senegal: 3.85 million
- Guinea: 2.4 million
CM d'Afrique is a platform created in June 2016 by Chedjou Kamdem, a Cameroonian digital manager and author of the blog Histoires de CM.
Since 2016, this platform has aimed to bring together community management professionals in Africa. This profession has been present on the continent since the 2000s but is developing in line with the increase in internet penetration rates and the exponential growth of smartphones. Thanks to this network, analyses of brand communications, the publication of key data, and regular surveys, CM d'Afrique is responding to the growing interest of internet users and businesses in the main social networks and best practices to adopt.
