Following a meeting held on June 30 via videoconference, the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football unveiled the next guidelines to be followed for the resumption of African football competitions.
In response to the spread of COVID-19 around the world, the Confederation of African Football announced in March that all sporting competitions scheduled for the following months would be suspended.
The Africa Cup of Nations, originally scheduled to take place in Cameroon in January 2021, will now be held in January 2022 due to the global pandemic. As for the African Nations Championship, scheduled for 2020 in Cameroon, it will be postponed to January 2021. However, CAF President Ahmad Ahmad has announced the cancellation of the upcoming 2020 African Women's Cup of Nations.
At the same time, CAF announced its intention to allocate an additional $16.2 million to provide financial support to member associations that have been severely affected by the health crisis.
It should be noted that in 2017, the CANAL+ Group signed an agreement with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) covering the broadcasting rights for CAF's main official competitions until 2024.
