Ayoba, the African "WhatsApp"

With over a billion users worldwide, WhatsApp has become the new playground for media outlets and economic operators.

On the African continent, WhatsApp occupies a privileged position and is becoming increasingly popular. However, the instant messaging app is no longer alone on the market and faces new competition…

MTN, an operator with a presence across the continent, has launched Ayoba, its own instant messaging app. The South African telecoms giant is thus providing its 233 million users in Africa in 2018 with a free messaging service adapted to local realities, in areas where internet coverage and data costs are real challenges.

Designed and developed as an "African WhatsApp," this instant messaging app is available in 54 languages and will also integrate MTN's Mobile Money service, "MoMo," which already covers 14 countries on the continent.
