The major Parisian event dedicated to technology and innovation took place once again from June 15 to 18.
For once, Africa took center stage during the event. And with good reason, as the event organizers, Publicis and Les Echos, chose to highlight the vitality of the continent's startups.
To illustrate this vitality, nothing beats an awards ceremony to reward African innovation. For the first time, VivaTech and the International Finance Corporation organized the AfricaTech Awards.
A total of 45 dynamic and innovative startups in the fields of health, logistics, and finance were selected. Among the countries most represented through their entrepreneurial ecosystems were Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, South Africa, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The first four countries mentioned account for 80% of the investments made in startups on the continent.
Still somewhat on the sidelines, French-speaking startups are trying to compete with English-speaking startups, but the players are in agreement: the prospects for growth and development are good for both French-speaking and English-speaking startups. And the VivaTech trade show offers a great showcase for the initiatives emerging on the continent.
