On Thursday, October 25, 2018, Canal Olympia (Cotonou) hosted a press conference to launch the series "African Capitals: Kutonu." The "African Capitals" program itself is a major collection initiated by the production company Scénarii with the support of the A+ channel. The common goal of this pan-African production is to immerse viewers in the daily lives of African populations in order to highlight their cultural riches through their traditions, passions, and hopes. "African Capitals" aims to decipher the social, economic, and political lives of the inhabitants of the major cities of French-speaking Africa.
A predominantly Beninese cast.
Filming took place in Cotonou. "African Capitals: Kutonu" consists of 26 episodes, each lasting 26 minutes, explains director Ayénan Aymar Essè. "Kutonu," he says, is the story of 10 former high school seniors who reunite 12 years after graduating. One of them, Lionel, a 30-year-old computer engineer, creates an app called "Kutonu." He uses the app to bring his friends together. Unfortunately, behind the exciting idea of a reunion lies a desire for revenge…
"African Capitals: Kutonu" says Damiano Malchiodi, CEO of A+, will be broadcast on November 1 on A+, the African series channel, Monday through Friday in the A+ Créations slot at 3:00 p.m. According to him, the program aims to promote African talent and showcase it to the world. So, after the talents of Bamako, Benin is now in the spotlight. The A+ channel, the CEO continues, is accessible to everyone, not just the elite.
According to Jean-Noël Bah (Scenarii), other capitals were also visited. These included Yaoundé and Niamey. He extends his gratitude to the A+ channel, which, he says, continues to provide valuable financial and technical support for the production of this program, based on the idea that African youth are increasingly losing faith in their cities, politicians, and leaders.
For him, this series aims to give young people guidance in order to spark something in them. It should be noted that the launch ceremony was also attended by Jonathan Lett, Managing Director of Canal+ Benin, and Cléli Azokpota, Director of Acquisitions for the A+ channel.
