Acacia Films, a Burkinabe audiovisual production company, will launch production of a 12 x 52-minute thriller series filmed in Burkina Faso at the end of 2019. To carry out this project, Acacia Films wants to bring together the continent's best writing talent.
In collaboration with CFI, the Burkinabe company is launching a call for applications entitled "Thrillers and Talents" in order to select six writers from the continent to join the series production project. The aim is to train these talents from the continent to express their expertise and creativity by joining the artistic team of a pan-African TV series. This call for applications aims to identify talents who can participate in the creation of the series or who, thanks to this training, can benefit from opportunities in the rapidly changing African audiovisual production sector.
Beyond training, which is a major challenge for the development of audiovisual production in Africa, Acacia Films intends to democratize the thriller genre so that it becomes more integrated into the world of African television series.
The Thriller and Talents call for applications is open to female and male authors/screenwriters under the age of 45 from countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali, Ivory Coast, Guinea Conakry, Senegal, Togo, Benin, Niger, Cameroon, DRC, Gabon, Congo, Central African Republic, Chad, and Burundi.
The training will consist of an initial seminar on methods and techniques for writing thriller TV series, followed by a second seminar on script formatting. Finally, a six-week residency will be organized with two selected screenwriters to develop the 12 scripts for the series alongside the main writers. Candidates will be supervised by a trainer and script doctor, by the production manager of Acacia Films, and consulted by the series' producer.
The call for applications will close on March 23.
