Ivory Coast: Government adopts measures for migration to digital terrestrial television

At a Council of Ministers meeting held on April 3 in Abidjan, the Ivorian government took a number of measures relating to the implementation of the national strategy for migration to digital terrestrial television (DTT).

The Council adopted four decrees:

• a decree establishing the rules and procedures for calls for applications for authorizations to use radio and television broadcasting frequencies;

• a decree establishing the conditions for the operation and use of radio and television broadcasting frequencies, cable, satellite, ADSL, multimedia network, and earth station broadcasting services;

• a decree amending Decree No. 2011-475 of December 21, 2011, on the organization and operation of the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA).

  • A decree on the transfer of assets from Radiodiffusion Télévision Ivoirienne (RTI) to Société Ivoirienne de Télédiffusion (IDT).

According to the official press release, "these measures enshrine the adaptation of the national regulatory framework for audiovisual communication to the changes brought about by the transition to DTT."
