Burkina Faso: Ciné Guimbi to open its doors in the first half of 2020

The reopening of Ciné Guimbi in Burkina Faso to the public will be postponed.

Work on the iconic cinema is running a few months behind schedule. The end of the renovation project, initially planned for November 21, will be postponed until the first half of 2020.

The announcement was made during a press conference held on the sidelines of the Namur International Francophone Film Festival. Berni Goldblat, president of the Association de Soutien au Cinéma du Burkina Faso (Burkina Faso Film Support Association) in charge of the project, explained that the work had taken longer than expected and that he had also had to deal with certain administrative delays.

It is in the cultural city of Bobo-Dioulasso that the public will be able to reconnect with the 7th Art thanks to Ciné Guimbi, a mini-plex designed around two movie theaters (174 seats and 324 seats) as well as a cultural hub hosting activities related to image education and training in the cinema professions.

In an interview with Adweknow, Berni Goldblat said, "With Ciné Guimbi, we are focusing on a hybrid format: a movie theater in a cultural hub, with programming centered on auteur films but also international films… We want to create a living space that goes beyond cinema."
