Despite successive closures that have cast a chill over the entire e-commerce market in French-speaking Africa, some players are persisting and standing out.
Moulaye Tabouré, CEO of the Afrikrea platform, has officially announced that he has raised €1 million in funding to boost the startup's activities.
Launched in Paris in 2016 and now based in Abidjan, Afrikrea is an online marketplace that connects African designers specializing in fashion and crafts with the rest of the world, enabling them to reach a wider audience among the African diaspora.
Available in French and English, the startup now has several thousand listings, 33,466 users from 45 countries, and recorded more than €1 million in transactions in January 2018 (source: Afrikrea White Paper).
Led by its founders Moulaye Tabouré and Abdoul Kadry Diallo, the young company is now undertaking a new operation, raising €1 million from its long-standing investors such as Saviu Ventures and ID4 Ventures, as well as signing a partnership agreement with DHL for the marketplace's delivery service.
