RFI and France 24 confirm their success in French-speaking African countries in 2019

and their leading positions in terms of brand awareness and audience ratings, according to the results of the 2019 Africascope* study conducted by Kantar-TNS in eight countries: Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Bamako (Mali), Brazzaville (Congo), Dakar (Senegal), Douala and Yaoundé (Cameroon), Kinshasa (DRC), Libreville (Gabon), and Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). In these nine cities, more than one in two residents say they listen to at least one of the two media outlets every week, meaning that more than 10 million people are loyal to France Médias Monde's media outlets

. In addition, their brand awareness remains high (92% of the population say they are familiar with RFI or France 24). The digital results of RFI and France 24 complement the success of the two media outlets in French-speaking Africa. With a combined 6.1 million monthly visits** to their digital environments in 2019 (+13% vs. 2018) and continuously growing communities on social media with a high engagement rate, RFI and France 24 are consolidating their status as the leading connected news providers in the region.

Furthermore, according to the results of the Africascope study, RFI is perceived as "the leading news radio station in Africa,"

As the leading international radio station in French-speaking Africa, RFI also remains in the Top 5 most listened to radio stations every day in the eight countries studied (all radio stations combined) and has seen its listening time increase to more than one hour per day per listener (+4 minutes vs. 2018). Across the eight countries surveyed, international radio is listened to weekly by 37.2% of the population and nearly 72.4% of executives and managers. World radio remains the most listened to by this target audience in most capitals. In Bamako, Mandinka-language programming continues to be very popular alongside French-language programming. With an average of 3.7 million visits (+11% vs. 2018) per month to its digital platforms in 2019, RFI confirms its success across all media in French-speaking Africa.

FRANCE 24

France 24 largely retains its status as the leading international news channel, across all target audiences, in French-speaking Africa. In the audiovisual landscape of five of the eight countries studied, it ranks among the ten most-watched channels (all genres combined) by the entire population, and in the top five among executives and managers in all capitals. In the region, 40.2% of residents watch France 24 every week, and the channel has consolidated its leading position among executives and managers with a 77.2% weekly audience share. In 2019, France 24's digital platforms continue to attract more and more connected audiences in the region, with an average of 2.4 million visits per month (+16% in 2018) in French-speaking Africa.

These excellent results for RFI and France 24, complemented by those of TV5Monde over the same period, once again demonstrate the appeal of the complementary range of French and French-language channels, which attract a large number of viewers, listeners, and internet users in the region.
