FACEBOOK supports the e-commerce sector in Africa

Afrimarket, Cdiscount, Jumia in Cameroon and Rwanda… The successive closures of several major e-commerce players have cast a chill over the entire e-commerce market in the sub-region. For those players that remain, it is time for strategic reflection on the future of the sector in an African context…

Digital giant Facebook has decided to contribute by setting up a training program for e-commerce startups based in Africa.

For several years now, Facebook has been supporting its presence on the continent, contributing to the development of the digital ecosystem in a region where the social media platform has 155 million monthly active users. Faced with the economic crisis resulting from the COVID-19 health crisis, the web giant also wants to encourage companies to choose e-commerce as a means of developing and maintaining growth.

This training program is part of this strategy, offering entrepreneurs with innovative e-commerce projects the opportunity to benefit from 12 weeks of training, mentoring on business development, and a network of professionals. The aim of the program is to create an international community of entrepreneurs specializing in online sales, but also, and above all, to support the development of the e-commerce market. It is aimed at Series A B2B or B2B2C start-ups offering innovative solutions in e-commerce.

Project leaders have until August 31, 2020, to apply.
