TV and radio audiences: the Ivorian audiovisual landscape dominated by the RTI group's channels

The RTI Business Meeting on May 6, 2021, at the Majestic Cinema Room of the Sofitel Hotel Ivoire, served as a forum for the RTI group to deliver the results of audience studies commissioned from three (3) leading research firms. These firms are KANTAR TNS, MEDIAMETRIE, and MARKETING CHOICE MY.

The results produced by these three research firms confirm the dominance of the RTI Group's channels, as evidenced by the following figures:

  • RTI 1 and RTI 2 TV channels lead TV audiences with 82% and 77% of weekly audience share, respectively; Fréquence 2 and Radio CI rank first and fourth in national commercial radio audiences with 36% and 24% of weekly audiences (Source: KANTAR, H2 2020);
  • The TV channels RTI 1 and RTI 2 are the most watched channels with total viewership of 99.3% and 99.1% respectively; Fréquence 2 and Radio CI rank first and third in terms of total listeners, with 96.5% and 93.8% respectively (Source: MEDIAMETRIE, 1st quarter 2021).
  • RTI 1 and RTI 2 rank first and third in terms of cumulative audience share, with 25.3% and 12.6% respectively. Fréquence 2 and Radio CI are also in first and third place in terms of audience share with 22% and 12% respectively (Source: MCMY, January–March 2021).

In light of these figures, the RTI Group remains the undisputed leader of the Ivorian Audiovisual Landscape (PAI).

The liberalization of the Ivorian audiovisual landscape and the entry of DTT channels into the market are by no means handicaps for the RTI Group.

According to the Director General of RTI, this context is rather "an opportunity, a godsend that has allowed us to review the habits, organization, functioning, and working methods of our group" in order to "meet the expectations of the Ivorian population, which has become more demanding."
