For the first time since its creation, MIDEM, an international event that brings together all players in the music industry, is launching an African edition organized digitally.
The organizers have officially launched "Midem Africa," the first pan-African digital event dedicated to the most dynamic music markets on the African continent.
In an interview in 2019, Alexandre Deniot, Director of MIDEM,
already shared his ambitions for the continent: "When we look at Africa, we see real potential. Everything is falling into place for the continent to become one of the largest music markets, even if there are still many challenges to be faced, particularly in terms of copyright, training, and professionalization of the sector. And we want to provide our support in this area to help local artists make a living from their passion and export their music internationally.
The program includes panels and keynotes led by artists and music industry leaders, focusing on the following main themes:
- Africa's role in the global music market
- How to monetize your music
- Nigeria's rapid growth in the global market
- How to promote your music
Organized digitally, the event will be free and open to all from June 28 to July 1, 2021. Players such as Universal Music Africa, Boomplay, MTV, Music in Africa, Afrobeat Network, and Afrobytes have confirmed their attendance at the event.
