A look back at the launch of Makers.africa with Benjamin Mampuya

Launched in June 2021, Makers.africa is an online business news outlet in Africa and for Africa created by La Compagnie Générale de Communication and Financial Afrik. We look back at the origins of the project with Benjamin Mampuya, founder of the CGC agency.

How is the editorial team organized?

The editorial team consists of three full-time journalists who write short, timeless articles on business-related topics, as well as interviews and opinion pieces by experts, business leaders, and other professionals from the world of business and investment.

What is Makers.africa's editorial line?

The editorial line is positive and educational, and the media outlet is structured around six sections: News, Tools and Advice, Training, Finance, Profiles, Opinion. The articles cover everything from the largest fundraisers in Africa to the best airports on the continent and the regulations in force for startups in African countries, as well as practical tips on how to manage your team, recruit new employees, and run your business. In a nutshell, the idea behind Makers is to showcase Africa's entrepreneurial spirit, its successes, and its rightful place in a globalized world, and to bring together all readers who share this Afro-optimism.

Who is the target audience?

Makers.africa is a media outlet aimed at entrepreneurs, startup founders, investors, institutions, students, and more. We group them all under the term "Makers," referring to those who are involved in Africa's development, who are entrepreneurs in Africa, and who, through their activities, are building Africa's economic models. In terms of readership, we hope to target young people on the African continent and in the diaspora who want to start businesses, but also a more mature audience of professionals in the private and public sectors, both on the continent and those conducting business in Africa.

Why create a partnership between Financial Afrik and Compagnie Générale de Communication?

Makers.africa is a project that allows Financial Afrik to broaden its readership and reach a new, younger audience of entrepreneurs who are not necessarily experts in the world of finance, but who are looking for the keys to better understand the challenges and opportunities of the business world in Africa. For CGC, this project is in line with the agency's positioning, namely to highlight the positive realities of the continent. Makers is thus a showcase for promoting positive stories and new models from the African continent.
