Le Monde has entered into a strategic partnership with Orange Africa to accelerate the distribution of Le Monde subscriptions across the African continent. For Orange, this partnership will enable it to expand its offering of high-quality digital content for its customers.
Since November 2, 2021, Orange Côte d'Ivoire customers have been able to subscribe directly from their Orange et moi and myPlace apps to Le Monde's digital subscription, which includes access to all articles, including archives. The Le Monde app will also be available on their smartphones.
This launch in Côte d'Ivoire is the first step in a strategy to develop Le Monde's subscriber audience in French-speaking Africa.
Several countries in which Orange Africa and Middle East is present (West Africa, Central Africa, and the Maghreb) have already planned to market Le Monde subscriptions before the end of 2021.
"In line with its ambition to be the leading digital operator in Africa, Orange is rolling out its strategy to develop high-quality content offerings on the continent. Our unprecedented collaboration with Le Monde is part of the diversification of digital services offered to our African customers," said Jérôme Hénique, Deputy CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa.
"This strategic partnership combines two drivers of our development," said Louis Dreyfus, Chairman of the Le Monde Group's Executive Board,
"the very strong growth of our digital subscriber portfolio (more than 400,000 digital subscribers to date) and our investment in enhanced editorial coverage of African news with 'Le Monde Afrique'."
Through this partnership, Orange is making its digital ecosystem (distribution channels, mobile payment) available to Le Monde in order to simplify access for Orange customers to content reserved for Le Monde subscribers.
Digital subscription offers for Le Monde content will be available in local currency, with the option of payment via Orange Money and Orange billing from Orange e-commerce sites.
Through this partnership, Le Monde and Orange MEA are demonstrating their commitment to facilitating access to rigorous and in-depth information, with a new service fully adapted to the changing habits of Le Monde readers across the African continent.
