EXCLUSIVE: Initial figures on VOD and streaming consumption in AFSS

The KANTAR institute, which conducts the annual Africascope study, has revealed to us exclusively the initial results on VOD and streaming consumption in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa.

It should be noted that the study covers the capitals of eight countries (Senegal, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Republic of Congo), representing nearly 20.2 million individuals aged 15 and over.

Across the eight countries studied, 7.4%

of the population, or 1,502,000 people, used a streaming or VOD service during the previous 12 months.

There are significant disparities between countries, which are in line with internet penetration: as with all digital indicators, Senegal is well ahead with 15.8%

of the population having used a VOD or music streaming service in the last 12 months, followed by Cameroon (11.8%)

and Mali (10.9%)..

At the bottom of the ranking, the DRC, CONGO, and BURKINA FASO do not exceed 5%.

Between the two sources of use (VOD/STREAMING), VOD is the most widespread, accounting for nearly 90% of usage.
