Netflix, HBO, Amazon… Even though the market is still somewhat immature, VOD platforms are launching on the African continent. With the arrival of digital terrestrial television, the proliferation of local channels, and the presence of long-standing players, competition promises to be fierce, and the battle will be fought primarily over content.
To attract subscribers, platforms are redoubling their efforts to offer high-quality content tailored to local realities.
In this regard, the news is regularly dominated by the actions of the giant Netflix, which is multiplying partnerships with African production companies. However, Amazon Prime Video has recently decided to compete with Netflix in Nigeria by focusing on local production.
After launching its activities in the country in the first half of 2022, Amazon Prime Video announced the signing of a collaboration agreement with Nigerian director Jáde Osiberu and her production company Greoh Studios. The goal? To offer subscribers original television series and feature films.
After Anthill Studios and Inkblot Productions, this is the third agreement signed with a Nigerian studio.
