New World TV, which has acquired the broadcasting rights for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar for French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa, has just announced the recruitment of Wilfrid Mbappé.
Thanks to Christian Jean Pierre, who joined the channel as head of content and is a close friend of the Mbappé family, New World TV will have a high-profile consultant for the 2022 FIFA World Cup: Kylian Mbappé's father, Wilfrid.
He will join the existing team of journalists and consultants, which includes journalists Smail Bouabdellah, Salim Baungally, Anthony Pla, Yoro Mangara, Séna Tchikou, and Armel Ouaba, as well as a team of consultants currently consisting of Emmanuel Adebayor, Basile Boli Patrick Mboma, and Bonaventure Kalou.
New World TV has several sports channels and will broadcast all 64 World Cup matches in all French-speaking African countries. Every day, the channel will be dedicated to the World Cup from 8 a.m. to midnight. Three daily programs will structure the schedule, with a morning show, a midday show, and a major evening show hosted by Salim Baungally.
The best match of the day will be available in six languages: Wolof, Ewe, Bambara, Lingala, French, and English.
The five New World Sport channels on which the 2022 World Cup matches will be broadcast will be accessible and available on all media: TV, mobile phones, PCs, and tablets.
However, given the low internet penetration in French-speaking Africa and the fact that these channels will not be available on the main audiovisual distributors in French-speaking Africa, it is questionable whether the promise of reaching the widest possible audience can be kept.
