YouTube launches music streaming services in Nigeria

A few weeks after the appointment of Nigerian Alex Okosi as YouTube's Managing Director for emerging markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, the web giant announced the launch of two music services in Nigeria.

In addition to video, YouTube has officially launched YouTube Music, a music streaming service.

Songs, albums, playlists, artist radio stations, and music videos will be available. The service will be free, financed by advertising. In addition to this free music streaming service, YouTube has also launched its paid service, YouTube Music Premium, available via subscription.

In Africa, as in the rest of the world, the digital revolution has completely transformed the music industry. New modes of consumption are emerging and online music platforms are developing, even though the market still appears to be largely untapped.
