In Africa, as in the rest of the world, the digital revolution has completely changed how people use technology. New ways of consuming content are emerging and streaming platforms are growing.
In August 2021, Digital TV Research announced that there would be 15.1 million paying subscribers to SVOD services in Africa by 2026. This forecast figure represents a threefold increase on the 5.1 million expected by the end of 2021.
Following in the footsteps of giants such as Netflix, other players are entering the market, banking on local content to set themselves apart. This is the case with Wido, a new SVOD service that offers its users a catalog of films and series. These films and series are 100% African, produced or acquired exclusively.
To carve out a place for itself, Wido is offering its users three subscription options: daily, weekly, and monthly.
The advertising campaign for the launch was created by McCann Dakar.
