TV5 Monde suspended again in Mali

The media regulatory authority, the High Authority for Communication of Mali (HAC), has sent a letter to local audiovisual service distributors requesting that they stop broadcasting TV5Monde until further notice.

The High Authority for Communication in Mali (HAC) has criticized the media outlet for "failing to uphold its duty of impartiality" in relation to the political party demonstration on Saturday, May 3, 2025, in its 8:30 p.m. edition of the Afrique news program.

According to the HAC, "only the statements of political party leaders opposed to the repeal of the political parties charter were broadcast, while ignoring the version of events given by the manager of the Palace of Culture and the head of the law enforcement officers present at the scene of the demonstration."

TV5 Monde had already been suspended once for a period of three months in 2024. This time, the HAC decided to suspend the channel for an unspecified period.

It should be noted that France 2 and LCI faced similar sanctions in 2024.

RFI and France 24 have been banned from broadcasting in Mali since March 2022, more than three years ago.

The Malian news channel Joliba TV is expected to resume broadcasting at the end of the month, following a six-month suspension.
