From February 10 to 12, 2023, the Ivorian capital will host the 8th edition of Abidjan Capitale du Rire, the must-see event for African comedy.
As every year, the public will be able to attend original shows staged by comedian and producer Mamane and his production company Gondwana City, performed by talented African artists.
If the economic capital of Côte d'Ivoire has naturally established itself as the hub of pan-African comedy, it is because, according to its initiator Mamane, "all Africans know that Ivorian comedy is the comedy of all Africa." Ivorian humor has always taken the approach of laughing at everything, and has permeated African culture as a whole. The Pearl of the Lagoons, dear to the comedian's heart, is "a place where laughter and artists from all countries and cultures come together." Abidjan, the capital of laughter: an obvious fact, which this festival brings to life.
In an interview with Adweknow, the famous Mamane confided: "Our greatest achievement is to see African comedians become proud of their profession. And I do mean profession. Thanks to all our activities, comedians have become admired figures and can make a living from their passion. But it is also an obstacle because there is still a lot to be done. The lack of consideration for the comedy sector is still present, even though we have succeeded in ensuring that artists are respected by sponsors and show organizers and have helped them become more professional through contracts."
