Suspension of Radio Omega in Burkina Faso

Radio Omega has been suspended in Burkina Faso for three months by the High Council for Communication following breaches of the law, ethics, and professional conduct.

This sanction comes after the radio station published a report on its Facebook page about a march organized by the National Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations on July 30, 2025, in which the CSC noted malicious and discourteous remarks about the Burkinabe authorities and the CNAVC.

The CSC also noted a persistent lack of professionalism despite a reminder already issued in March 2024 regarding the same shortcomings.

The radio station is also required to issue a public apology to the authorities, its listeners, and the CNAVC, which must be published on its platforms throughout the suspension period.

During these three months, Omega may not broadcast any programs on its channels or publish anything on its social media accounts or website.

This sanction is not the first, as Omega had already been suspended in August 2023 after an interview critical of the Nigerien military authorities.

It should be noted that since September 2022, RFI, TV5MONDE, France 24, LCI, and Radio Omega have been temporarily suspended in Burkina Faso.
