Continuing its long history as an operator of optimized distribution services for broadcasters seeking to expand their international reach, Globecast, now a global provider of media management and distribution solutions, has been selected by Radio Télévision Sénégalaise (RTS), Senegal's public broadcaster, to develop its international presence.
Globecast now handles the international distribution of its main channel, RTS1. Through this channel, RTS aims to reach its large diaspora, bring Senegalese news and culture to viewers around the world, and promote Senegal's economic dynamism, starting with the tourism industry.
Globecast worked closely with the public broadcaster to understand its exact requirements and then designed a solution tailored to its needs. The signal is received in Paris via GCXN, Globecast's live TV distribution solution over the internet, using the SRT protocol. It is then transmitted over an appropriate combination of satellites to reach the target audience in Asia, Europe, and North America. In addition to the technical aspects, Globecast also synchronized all the teams involved in this project, including African partners and the various teleports involved, located in France, California, and Jordan, to ensure a rapid launch and optimal operation.
Racine Talla, Director General of RTS, said: "We want and need to reach not only our diaspora around the world, but also to promote Senegal and its culture more widely. Thanks to Globecast, RTS is proud to be the first French-speaking African channel to be broadcast via satellite to Asia and Australia in addition to North America, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Working with Globecast also gives us a one-stop shop, and we can rely on their professionalism to manage the various constraints imposed by rights holders in different territories.
Lionel Antoine, Account Director, Africa, at Globecast, said: "We have extensive experience in providing tailor-made distribution solutions to broadcasters and publishers around the world. With a global reach, our understanding of the challenges and opportunities is unmatched. We are very pleased to have been chosen by RTS for this project."
