RFI-France 24: the ten finalists of the Africa App Challenge

The jury members of the "RFI – France 24 Challenge App Afrique" have selected the ten finalists for the fifth edition of the competition from nearly 1,000 entries (2.5 times more than in 2019) from 43 countries. Open to all Africans and start-ups on the continent, this edition rewards digital innovations (websites, apps, SMS services, etc.) that meet users' needs during epidemics (access to healthcare, reliable information, essential products, etc.).

> Djalila Rahali for "Coronaphobia Psytest" (Algeria): a questionnaire to help mental health professionals support their diagnosis and measure the psychological impact of lockdown.
> Diawara Amara for "Afriqcare " (Guinea): a platform for Malian and Guinean healthcare professionals, enabling online consultation management and appointment booking, with the option of accessing a health record and electronic vaccination record.

> Véna Arielle Ahouansou for "Kea Medicals" (Benin): a hospital information system providing access to the International Classification of Diseases and enabling public health authorities to monitor epidemiological indicators in real time.
> Joseph-Olivier Biley for "Tork " (Ivory Coast): a land robot made from recycled parts that disinfects streets and raises public awareness by broadcasting messages in local languages.

> Sy Adama Traore for "DignoseMe" (Burkina Faso): an online platform for real-time monitoring of epidemics, available in French and local languages, designed to help the population assess symptoms and direct users to the appropriate medical care.
> Fatoumata Bocoum for "Denko Kunafoni " (Mali): a platform dedicated to pregnant women who are illiterate or have difficulty getting to medical facilities.

> Corinne Maurice Ouattara for "Pass Santé Mousso " (Ivory Coast): a connected card linked to an online platform that stores all of its owner's medical information so that it can be made available to doctors in an emergency.
> Arnold Wogbo for "AnemiApp" (Democratic Republic of Congo): an app to raise awareness of sickle cell disease (prevention and treatment).

> Yvon Koudam for "Kondjigbale" (Togo): a digital health record accessible via the internet or SMS in areas without internet connection.
> Louis Marie Petit Ekani for "SOS Santé " (Cameroon): a mobile solution enabling people to obtain information and carry out self-diagnoses assisted by medical specialists on various epidemics, thereby facilitating patient care.

The ten finalists will receive personalized support from an incubator in their country of origin. The winner will receive funding for the development of their project.

Through this competition, RFI and France 24 aim to encourage and support innovation by stimulating and supporting young African companies and developers. Huawei, ENGIE AFRICA, Digital Africa, Société Générale, Africa Global Recycling, Next Einstein Forum, and African incubators for innovative companies are partners in the initiative.

The first four editions focused on the fields of health (2016), girls' education (2017), sustainable development (2018), and urban development and smart cities (2019).
