| RFI and France 24 are launching the seventh edition of the "Challenge App Afrique" competition, which this year aims to promote the integration of new technologies in the field of agriculture in French-speaking Africa. Open to all Africans and young companies on the continent, this edition rewards digital innovations (websites, applications, etc.) that improve agricultural practices in the service of sustainable agriculture.
Applications are open until January 10, 2023, on the dedicated website. The winner will receive funding for the development of their project. Through this competition, RFI and France 24 aim to encourage and support innovation by stimulating and supporting young African companies and developers. Digital Africa, CIRAD, IRD, AIMS, and 10,000 coders are partners in the initiative. The themes of the first six editions were health (2016), girls' education (2017), sustainable development (2018), urban development and smart cities (2019), digital technology in the fight against pandemics (2020), and digital technology in children's education (2021). |
| About the "App Africa Challenge":
Launched in 2016, the "App Africa Challenge" is a competition, associated with a program on RFI and France 24, and held in a French-speaking African country, aimed at developing citizen-led Internet use by encouraging projects that serve the public interest. The first six editions awarded prizes in Dakar in 2016 to Cheick Oumar Bagayoko (Mali), a young Malian doctor and computer scientist, for his "Bogou" medical tele-expertise application; in Abidjan in 2017 to Raissa Banhoro (Ivory Coast) for her "Lucie" functional literacy application; Serge Auguste Zaongo (Burkina Faso) in Cotonou in 2018 for his application designed to monitor irrigation on farms, Kevin Sesse (Ivory Coast) in 2019 for his project " "Mon Artisan," a connected platform that allows users to request local artisans, in 2020 Amara Diawara (Guinea), for his project "Afriqcare," and in 2021 to Christelle Hien-Kouame (Ivory Coast), for her project "Prenezlesfeuilles."
