RFI and France 24 confirm their success in French-speaking Africa, where both media outlets are followed by more than 60% of the population each week.

RFI and France 24 confirm their success in French-speaking African countries in 2022 and their leading positions in terms of brand awareness and audience ratings, according to the results of the "Africascope January-December 2022"* study conducted by Kantar-TNS in seven countries: Burkina Faso (Ouagadougou), Cameroon (Douala and Yaoundé), Congo-Brazzaville (Brazzaville), Côte d'Ivoire (Abidjan), Gabon (Libreville), Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasa), and Senegal (Dakar). Mali, where broadcasting of RFI and France 24 has been suspended by the authorities since March 2022, is not included in the scope of analysis for the two media outlets this year.

In the seven countries studied, more than one in two inhabitants (60.5%) say they follow at least one of the two media outlets every week. In addition, awareness of RFI and France 24 remains high (96.5% of the population say they are familiar with RFI or France 24). The growing digital results of RFI and France 24 complement the success of the two media outlets in the region.

As the leading international radio station in French-speaking Africa, RFI remains in the Top 5 most listened to radio stations on a daily basis in the seven countries surveyed (all radio stations combined). 87% of residents say they are familiar with it. Across all eight capitals, the world radio station is listened to weekly by 37.6% of the population and ranks among the top five (and in first place in Abidjan, Brazzaville, and Libreville) most listened to radio stations every day in each of the cities. RFI also confirms its success among executives and managers, two-thirds of whom (66%) say it is the radio station they listen to most in Abidjan, Douala, Libreville, Ouagadougou, and Brazzaville.

France 24 has consolidated its status as the leading international news channel, across all target audiences, in French-speaking Africa, where it ranks among the 10 most watched channels daily (all genres combined) in six of the eight capitals surveyed. Nearly one in two residents (49.6%) and more than eight out of ten executives and managers (80.2%) watch it every week in the eight cities surveyed. France 24 stands out particularly in this wave in Kinshasa (DRC), where it leads daily audiences (all channels combined) after its launch on DTT in the Congolese capital, as well as in Brazzaville, where it has climbed five places to become the second most watched channel.

The digital environments of France 24 and RFI are also popular with internet users in the seven countries studied. Over the course of a year, the average number of monthly visits increased for both media outlets (+18% for France 24 and +12% for RFI), while the total number of videos viewed on YouTube increased by 52% for France 24 and 125% for RFI.

These excellent results for RFI and France 24, complemented by those of TV5Monde over the same period, once again demonstrate the appeal of the complementary range of French and French-language channels, which attract a large number of viewers, listeners and internet users in the region.
