The Togolese company New World TV, which had already made a big splash during the 2022 World Cup, has done it again by winning the free-to-air and pay-TV broadcasting rights for all African Football Confederation (CAF) competitions for a period of three years.
New World TV therefore holds the broadcasting rights for CAF competitions for the period 2023 to 2025, covering 46 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
In total, the contract covers 13 competitions, including the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2023), which will take place in Ivory Coast, and of course CAN 2025, which will take place in Morocco.
The other competitions involved are the CAF Men's and Women's Champions League, the U17 and U20 African Cup of Nations, and the Beach Soccer African Cup of Nations.
As Louis Biyao, spokesperson for New World TV, explains, "The content of this contract includes two types of rights: free access rights and paid access rights broadcast on New World TV channels throughout Africa."
New World will thus be able to sublicense free broadcasting rights to free-to-air national channels in 46 countries and will reserve pay-per-view rights for its subscribers, who will need to have a New World decoder and take out a pay subscription.
