Netflix Creative Scholarships Equity Fund opens to students in West and Central Africa

Netflix announces the expansion of its Netflix Creative Equity Scholarship Fund to film and audiovisual students in West and Central Africa. Applications are now open for those wishing to study at institutions in Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, and Gabon. 

Launched in 2021, the Netflix Creative Equity Fund will be awarded to various initiatives over the next five years with the goal of creating a diverse pool of creators around the world, with a $1 million scholarship fund for students in sub-Saharan Africa. The CESF will cover tuition, housing, supplies, and living expenses at selected partner schools in Nigeria where recipients have been accepted to pursue a course of study in television and film disciplines during the 2022/2023 academic year. 

The Netflix CESF will be rolled out across the region during the academic year beginning in 2022, and Netflix will partner with Dalberg as the implementing partner and fund administrator in the West and Central Africa region. 

How it works

The Netflix CESF is designed to provide financial assistance in the form of full scholarships at partner higher education institutions in Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, and Gabon to help aspiring creators in West and Central African countries obtain recognized qualifications and training. The following countries in West and Central Africa will be eligible: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. 

The fund will be available to students who have been admitted to various film and television-related disciplines for the 2022 academic year at the following partner institutions: Institut Philippe Maury de l'audiovisuel et du Cinéma (IPMAC-Groupe EM GABON-UNIVERSITE), Gabon Institut Supérieur des Métiers de l'Audiovisuel (ISMA) (Benin) National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), Ghana National Film Institute Jos, Nigeria Pan-Atlantic University, Nigeria Applications are open until September 4, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. at
