Médiamétrie has just published the results of its first quarter 2024 survey, conducted with its field partner Omedia from January 14 to 29, 2024, February 11 to 26, 2024, and March 10 to 25, 2024.
As usual, Médiamétrie's press release focuses on cumulative audience figures, the main indicator of a media outlet's power.
In the first quarter of 2024, the entire Ivorian population watched TV regardless of age, gender, or social class: the period covered by Médiamétrie's first-quarter wave included the Africa Cup of Nations, which took place from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
Beyond the cumulative audience figures, which measure the extraordinary interest of the Ivorian population in this competition, the distribution of audiences (PDA) among the various channels was eagerly awaited.
It should be noted that three broadcasters held the rights to broadcast all of the matches: RTI, NCI, and CANAL+, which launched a temporary channel called CANAL+CAN for the occasion.
According to Médiamétrie's results for the first quarter of 2024, NCI, the New Ivorian Channel, ranks first among all channels with a record audience share of 10.8%.
NCI outperformed other broadcasters in the competition: CANAL+CAN (8.3%), RTI 1 (7.6%), and RTI 3 (4.6%). It thus improved on its score during the 2022 World Cup, when it exceeded 10% audience share for the first time.
A+ Ivoire (8.6% audience share), which normally dominates TV ratings, has fallen to second place, something that has never happened since the channel was launched.
Life TV, which has chosen not to broadcast sporting events (read our interview with Closran N'Guessan, Director of Strategy, marketing, and communications for the Life Group) has achieved a very respectable result, given the circumstances, with a 6.6% audience share (down from the last quarter of 2023, when Life TV peaked at an 8.1% audience share).
The broadcast of EURO 2024 in June, the qualifying matches for the next Africa Cup of Nations and the next FIFA World Cup, the Paris Olympics, etc. will all be opportunities for Ivorian channels to take advantage of the obvious audience bonus associated with broadcasting sporting events, even if the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations was and will remain an exceptional and unparalleled event.
