Canal+ Afrique, the long-standing broadcaster of Ligue 1 in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa, has signed a new broadcasting contract with the LFP for the next five seasons, until 2029.
In France, CANAL+ holds the broadcasting rights for Champions League and Europa League matches but did not respond to the Ligue 1 tender.
In French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa, the situation is very different: CANAL+ will broadcast LIGUE 1 matches but will only broadcast the best Wednesday night game and the UEFA Champions League final, as well as the UEFA Super Cup, with the remaining rights held by New World.
The days when a single broadcaster held all the best soccer rights are now over… which will have consequences for soccer fans, who will now have to pay more money to access the same content.
