The pan-African edition of the Mobile Film Festival Africa officially launched on February 17 and will run until March 17, 2021.
From Instagram stories to feature films and Facebook Live, mobile video has won over audiences and established itself in both private and professional spheres. The use of mobile devices in video content production is becoming widespread and is gradually transforming the media landscape, where we are seeing the emergence of new practices such as MoJo (mobile journalism), which is gaining ground in the newsrooms of major media outlets. Africa is the youngest continent in the world and is undergoing a veritable digital revolution, particularly in the mobile sector.
To support this revolution, the Mobile Film Festival is organizing a pan-African competition, judged by a panel of professionals, to promote mobile video as a format. This new African edition, running until March 17, will showcase 54 countries and reveal the continent's talented filmmakers in the format "1 mobile, 1 minute, 1 film." For this edition, 51 films from 23 countries make up the official selection.
"These films tell the story of today's Africa in a creative, inventive, intimate way, with humor and commitment to important social issues. They were created by young Africans who share this continent and want to tell its story and share it through images." – Bruno Smadja, creator of the Mobile Film Festival.
The official selection can be found here, and nine prizes will be awarded at the end of the competition:
- Africa Grand Prize
- Francophone Film Award
- Documentary Film Award
- African Female Director Award
- Original Music Award
- Screenplay Award
- Best Director Award

- Best Actress Award
