"Katanga, the dance of the scorpions" Gold Standard at FESPACO 2025

The 2025 Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) took place from February 22 to March 1, 2025, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Under the theme "African Cinema and Cultural Identities," the festival screened 235 films selected from 1,351 submissions from 48 countries.

The Yennenga Gold Stallion, the most prestigious award, was won by Burkinabe director Dani KOUYATE for his film "KATANGA, THE DANCE OF THE SCORPIONS," which also received several other awards.

The Silver Stallion goes to: "THE VILLAGE NEXT TO PARADISE" by Mo HARAWE (Somalia) and the Bronze Stallion to "ON BECOMING A GUINEA FOWL" by Rungano NYONI (Zambia).

NIABLA by Alex OGOU (Ivory Coast) and OR BLANC by Johanna BOYER-DILOLO (Ivory Coast) received the award for best TV series.

The FESPACO Animation Award goes to "THE ADVENTURES OF KADY AND DJUDJU (THE EMPIRE OF GHANA)" by Fatoumata BATHILY (Senegal). 

The award for Best Actor goes to Achille RONAIMOU in the film DIYA (Chad).

The award for Best Actress goes to Nisrin ERRADI in "EVERYBODY LOVES TOUDA" by Nabil AYOUCH (Morocco).

The festival also paid tribute to Malian director Souleymane Cissé, who died on February 19, 2025, and was scheduled to chair the "feature film fiction" jury.

The next edition of FESPACO will take place from February 27 to March 6, 2027, marking its 30th anniversary.
