JFD GABON will host its first special contribution workshop, "Noircir Wikipédia" (Blackening Wikipedia). This collaboration aims to introduce women from French-speaking Africa to writing and enriching articles about African women and women of African descent on the online encyclopedia.
The Noircir Wikipédia project was born out of an observation: African and Afro-descendant personalities are underrepresented on the platform. Black women are virtually invisible, with a presence of only 5%.
The initiative, led by Ivonne González and Gala Mayí-Miranda, therefore aims to fill the gap in articles, diversity of references, and information on Africa, its cultures, African personalities, and its diaspora on the online encyclopedia.
JFD is joining forces with Noircir Wikipédia to accelerate the visibility of women.Bringing role models to the fore is what we have been doing at JFD since 2013: you can't be what you haven't seen. African women have the power to take control of their own narratives, and we want to give them all the tools they need to contribute to this,"
says Delphine Remy-Boutang, CEO of the Bureau & JFD, President of the Global Entrepreneurship Network France.
"The goal of these workshops is to take back control of our history, tell it in our own words, and promote role models
,
"
says Yvonne González, co-founder of Noircir Wikipédia.
At the end of this workshop, new contributors will be ready to enrich Wikipedia by creating, but also by expanding and improving existing incomplete articles, in order to increase the representation of African women, the African diaspora, and people of African descent in the online encyclopedia.
