The FESPACO General Delegation recently unveiled the official selection for the 28th edition of FESPACO, which will be held from February 25 to March 4, 2023.
As a reminder, every two years, the country of honest men honors African cinema by organizing FESPACO, well known for its supreme award, the Etalon d'Or. FESPACO designates official prizes and special prizes as two categories of awards for films in competition. The official prizes include the Etalon d'Or du Yennenga for feature films and documentaries and the Poulain d'Or du Yennenga for short films.
In 2019, the festival celebrated its 50th anniversary with an edition organized around the theme "Memory and Future of African Cinema." For this edition, 1,142 films were submitted, including 84 from Burkina Faso.
In the "Series" category, we find Alex Ogou's new project "Obatanga

an original CANAL+ production conceived as a police series about crime in the upper echelons of society in an imaginary country, as well as "Ici C Babi,"

FESPACO's General Delegate, Moussa Alex Sawadogo, also unveiled the official visual for this 28th edition.
Created by the artist EL MARTO, the new visual symbolizes Sarraouinia, an Amazon, political and religious leader of the village of Lougou in Niger.
In 1980, the Nigerien writer Mamani Abdoulaye dedicated a novel to her ("Sarraouinia: The Drama of the Magician Queen"), which made her a figure in the collective imagination of Niger and, more broadly, Africa. The novel was adapted into a film in 1986 by filmmaker Med Hondo, who won the Etalon du Yennenga award in 1987.
According to the poster's creator, "the idea was to show another Africa, a combative Africa, an Africa that fights…"
