In Mali, on the morning of Thursday, March 17, 2022, the Ministry of Territorial Administration issued a statement announcing its intention to initiate proceedings to suspend the RFI and France 24 channels. By midday, all RFI FM transmitters in Mali had been shut down, as had France 24 broadcasts.
France Médias Monde (FMM), the parent company of the two media outlets, "deplores this decision and strongly protests against the unfounded accusations that seriously call into question the professionalism of its stations." France Médias Monde "will explore all avenues of appeal to ensure that such a decision is not implemented and reiterates its unwavering commitment to freedom of information and the professional work of its journalists."
