In recent years, media news in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa has been dominated by the release of new series. Audiovisual production is booming, with Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal leading the way.
In Dakar, projects are multiplying, driven by a new generation of talent, fueled by the liberalization of the landscape, boosted by the rise of digital platforms, and nourished by increasingly significant investments.
To reflect this dynamic, in 2023 the Senegalese capital hosted the "Dakar Series" event, the first pan-African festival dedicated to series, with Séraphine Angoula as its general manager.
“There are a multitude of events dedicated to cinema on the African continent, but none are 100% dedicated to series. Series are part of an increasingly prolific industry. This density of series production is enabling the training of new generations of professionals who alternate between series, film, and other audiovisual content productions," the CEO said in an interview with Adweknow.
Following the success of the event, the organizers took advantage of social media to announce that a second edition was in the works.
